Preparing for a Half Marathon

In less than three months I will doing a half marathon!

When I found myself losing steam and motivation on my weight loss and fitness journey, I decided to give myself something to work towards! Completing this half marathon will be an absolutely huge accomplishment for me. It is something I never in my life, until this point, thought I could be capable of.

My goal is to complete the half marathon, 13.1 miles, in three and a half hours. This is a good goal for me because it is not something I would be capable of doing today, but I truly believe with daily practice and training I will be able to reach my goal. While a runner may not be impressed at this goal, for me, it would be an absolutely epic achievement! It is going to take all of my energy and focus to prepare myself. 

The half marathon I have chosen to participate in is the Yosemite Half Marathon, hosted by Vacation Races. I am so excited to jog this scenic course through the woods outside of Yosemite National Park! My husband will be joining me and I am thankful for the opportunity to enjoy a weekend away with him; doing something together that will improve our health and lives.

If someone had told me two years ago, around the time the picture above was taken, that I would be almost ready to complete a half marathon- I think I would have laughed in their face! Not to be rude, but I was just not in a place where I believed in myself enough to think I could ever do this.

The beautiful thing about my weight loss journey is I am constantly testing myself and surprised and delighted by what I am capable of! Sometimes it's little things, like a yoga pose I can do with ease, and sometimes it's big things, like hiking for 12 miles and being well on my way to completing a half marathon!
